Today, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the newly constructed, eight-apartment Assisted Living Memory Care Neighborhood. The neighborhood, specially designed for residents with Alzheimers and dementia, is an addition to the existing Laurelwood Assisted Living building on our single campus located just outside the village of Pittsford.
Construction on the Assisted Living Memory Care neighborhood began last fall. Care was taken to design the neighborhood in such a way that it will allow for a great amount of interaction and integration with the full Assisted and Independent Living community while maintaining the necessary level of security and safety for the neighborhood’s residents.
“This neighborhood adds a new level of care to the continuum offered here at The Highlands at Pittsford,” said Jennifer DiOrio, Director of Assisted Living. “Having all care levels on a single campus means residents have the option for additional support, if needed, while staying in the same community to which they’ve become accustomed and call home.”
Ms. DiOrio explained that the size of the Memory Care neighborhood will allow for highly customized support for each resident. The boutique-like environment encourages residents to stay engaged in the activities that are planned each day by a dedicated Life Enrichment team.
“It is our goal to support our Memory Care community members in finding a sense of belonging and purpose while also helping them preserve who they are,” Ms. DiOrio added.
The neighborhood was designed by SWBR Architects & Engineers and constructed by DGA Builders.
