The Highlanders Hiking Club

When you join The Highlanders Hiking Club, you become a member of a vibrant, enthusiastic, and fun group, to say the least! The Highlanders enjoy year-round walks around The Highlands at Pittsford campus, the Erie Canal, and the Village of Pittsford. The leader of the club is Randy. Affectionately referred to as a “jumping bean”, Randy is not only an avid walker, he is great at bringing people together. The club often incorporates visits to local events and other happenings into their outings. All members of the club are kept in the know via an email newsletter.

Here are a few examples from last month’s newsletters.

“Hello Highlanders,

Today’s weather should be tomorrow’s weather, perhaps a few degrees hotter.

Starting from the ‘big house’ welcome center at 1:30 then meeting our cottage neighbors at the Hahnemann Club at 1:35 we will proceed to the Public Library which will be holding its semi annual book sale. It’s an opportunity to find your favorite author, mystery or even wonderful jig saw puzzles to enjoy during the coming winter months. If it’s not too hot we will return via Schoen Place and the canal trail.

Come say hello to your neighbors while enjoying a walk together.

Randy”

“UPCOMING AT THE PITTSFORD LIBRARY. THIS TUESDAY 9/17 AT 2:30-3:30 an IRS representative will discuss the annual ‘dirty dozen’ list of common scams to be aware of to keep your tax information safe.”

“We walked to the Pittsford Community Center and heard Pittsford stories from Town historian Vicky Profitt. It was fun to learn more about the community we live in from Vicky who is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and a great speaker. Our meeting was in a preserved original classroom from the 1950’s; the same classroom that resident Will H. sat in as a boy. Vicky passed around a photo of Will’s eighth grade graduation class. Although some changes had taken place as Will matured since the eighth grade we still could pick him out because he was like now, the tallest kid in the picture.”
